Beginning with the season eight premiere on February 27, 2026, Apple TV subscribers will be able to watch "Drive to Survive" without a Netflix subscription. The move marks the first of its kind for Netflix, a company that normally offers its content exclusively on its own platform.
As part of the deal, The New York Times reports, Apple will allow one of its live F1 Grand Prix to air on Netflix. The Canadian Grand Prix will be offered to Netflix customers in the United States as well as on Apple TV.

The popular Netflix Foruma 1 docuseries "Drive to Survive" will be available to stream on Apple TV in the United States as part of a surprise content-sharing deal.

Apple signed a multi-year deal to become the exclusive broadcasting partner of Formula 1 in the United States starting with the 2026 season. With the deal costing up to $150 million per year, Apple's willingness to share a GP with Netflix is notable.
Apple goes all-in
The deal may say more about the draw of "Drive to Survive" than anything else. The fly-on-the-wall docuseries follows Formula 1 drivers throughout the season, offering fans a behind-the-scenes look at race weekends and more.
The popularity of "Drive to Survive" is seen by some as a key driver for Formula 1's newfound popularity in the United States. Without it, it's debatable whether Apple would have sought to bring Formula 1 races to Apple TV in the first place.
Apple would surely have preferred that "Drive to Survive" be part of the Apple TV experience proper. The company is in the midst of a Formula 1 push that seeks to highlight its future coverage.
Apple has so far gone all-in on its Formula 1 coverage. The company has already added one GP circuit to Apple Maps, with more to come. A recent report noted Apple would "bring everything Apple has to bear" to its new Formula 1 content push.
