Baseus PicoGo AM52 Qi2.2 batteries review: multi-device charging & 25W MagSafe

The Baseus PicoGo line has expanded with the AM52 Qi2.2 MagSafe battery packs, which bring more features and faster speeds to the pocketable chargers. One even has a built-in cable.

Baseus PicoGo AM52 review: 10,000 mAh packed as small as it can get
I already compared the fall lineup of Baseus battery packs to Apple's odd iPhone Air MagSafe Battery, so there's no need for it today. The two I'm reviewing are massive 10,000 mAh batteries packed in what qualifies as a "slim" case.

The Baseus PicoGo AM52 power bank is Qi2.2 certified and MagSafe compatible. One has an integrated cable and the other doesn't.

Other than the cable and the features that provides, the batteries are identical. Compare these new Qi2.2 variants to the PicoGo Ultra-Slim Qi2 model I tested previously in terms of size and capacity.

The AM52 is the upgraded model.

Baseus PicoGo AM52 review: design

There's not much to say about the design of these battery packs. They're designed to be cool to the touch, easy to grip, and resistant to scratching.

Baseus PicoGo AM52 review: slim isn't quite the word that describes these battery packs

I tested a Kuxiu Qi2.2 battery pack with an integrated cable and it was quite chunky by comparison. The included kickstand and wrap-around cable played a part in it, but it is quite large.

The Baseus battery packs are noticeably smaller in each dimension, but don't expect a miracle. These batteries still have to have space for the capacity they offer.

Unlike Apple's oddly long MagSafe Battery for iPhone Air, the AM52 is about the same size as the average MagSafe wallet. Thickness-wise, they're about twice as thick as the slim battery packs with half the capacity.

Baseus PicoGo AM52 review: identical designs, but one has a cable

To put it in measurements, they are both 4 inches by 2.67 inches by 0.58 inches. One has a cable that can't be removed, and both weigh about 8.4 ounces.

Since they're as thin as they can get for this capacity and smooth to the touch, they're comfortable to hold when attached to the iPhone. The cable version can easily plug into the iPhone for even faster charging.

Baseus PicoGo AM52 review: features

The Qi2.2 rating is the most important feature, but there are some interesting tricks available to users too. Some battery packs make you choose between using the MagSafe charger or the charging port — these don't.

Baseus PicoGo AM52 review: charge an iPhone, iPad, and another device with one battery

The cable version of the AM52 can charge your iPhone over MagSafe, your iPad over the integrated cable, and your AirPods through the USB-C port. The non-cable version supports using the USB-C port and MagSafe at the same time.

Charge your iPhone 17 at 25W via MagSafe or 45W via the USB-C port. The model with the included cable can also deliver 45W through the cable.

Both models of AM52 can recharge at 30W max, which will refill the 10,000 mAh battery in about 1.5 hours. It takes about half an hour to recharge an iPhone 17 Pro Max to 65% over a wire and 34 minutes to 50% over 25W MagSafe.

Baseus PicoGo AM52 review: 45W wired charging in your pocket

My testing shows these ratings are accurate, though there will be variability in charging times based on environmental temperature and iPhone use. Having an included cable makes 45W fast charging more accessible.

These are far more powerful than the battery packs you might be used to. Previously, 7.5W was the average, 15W was the exception.

Using the Baseus PicoGo AM52

Baseus might use "slim" in its marketing, but these are anything but. It's not to say that they're too thick or heavy, but it's not a word I'd use to describe them.

Baseus PicoGo AM52 review: easily gripped in spite of its capacity

It is true that these batteries are slimmer than competing options with these specs. That is especially true for Qi2.2 batteries, which tend to be quite thick.

Slipping one of these batteries into a pocket, bag, or purse is an afterthought. I like having one in my backpack for easy access while I'm working away from home.

The model with a cable is my preferred one. It can charge my iPhone and iPad Pro while I'm working and using the iPhone as a hotspot.

Baseus PicoGo AM52 review: fast charge your iPhone and someone else's too

It's also nice that both models can handle charging multiple devices at fast speeds. Again, the cable model has the advantage because it can charge your iPhone and a friend's iPhones without needing an extra cable.

Apple's MagSafe Battery is exclusively built for iPhone Air and can't help anyone else. It's also much more expensive for less capacity.

I think the wired Baseus AM52 wired battery pack is going to be my go-to travel battery for a while. It checks a lot of boxes and that 25W MagSafe charging is nothing to sneeze at.

Fast magnetic charging

Qi2.2 is a relatively new standard and only the iPhone 17 lineup, iPhone 16 Plus, and iPhone 16 Pro Max can take advantage of it. The iPhone Air can use these battery packs, but it'll peak at 20W.

Baseus PicoGo AM52 review: power banks don't need gimmicks to be good

iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro will reach 22.5W peak power on the MagSafe battery. All previous iPhones will default to 7.5W because they require Apple's MagSafe certification to reach 15W.
