iMessage activation

Is this happening/ happened to anyone else? For reference, I am in the UK. Approx 2 weeks ago I got a pop up one morning which said my iMessage could not be activated. I have had the same number for over 10 years, and I have had the same phone for about 2 years now. I’ve never had an issue before. So my iMessage would not activate with my mobile number. I would be able to tick it sometimes, but then it would randomly untick throughout the day. And I was sending iMessages from my email without realising. Sometimes it wouldn’t even let my click my number. I have contacted Apple support, I have called them aswell and shared my screen. I have restarted, reset my network settings on my phone, I have contacted Vodafone (my network provider) who are stating there’s nothing wrong on their end. I have contacted Apple basically everyday for 2 weeks, all they ever suggest is turning it on and off, speaking to a senior member of staff. One minute they’re saying my number was blocked as it was reported for spam, the next they are saying it isn’t blocked. I have submitted the form 3 times as requested by Apple. It’s a mess. I’m stressed. I feel like I’m going round in circles. Is this an ongoing problem?
