February 2025 Cyber Attacks Statistics
After the cyber attacks timelines, it’s time to publish the statistics for February 2025 where I collected and analyzed 231 events. In February 2025, Cyber Crime continued to lead the Motivations chart with 64% down from 75%, of February. Operations driven by Cyber Espionage ranked at number two with 20%, an important increase from 12% and once again ahead of Hacktivism slightly down to 3% from 4%. Only a single event was attributed to Cyber Warfare that closes the chart.

Unsurprisingly, in February 2025, Malware led the Attack Techniques with 38%, up from 24%, followed by Targeted Attacks that jumped at number two with 22% (which explains the high number of events driven by cyber espionage) and Ransomware at place number three with 18%, very close to 17% of the previous month..
And once again Phishing led the Initial Access vectors with 14%, very close to 15% of the previous month, and once again ahead of the exploitation of Vulnerabilities in public-facing apps that continued their increasing trend with 10%, three points more than the value recorded in the previous month, and ahead of Social Engineering at place number three with 6%.
The Distribution of Targets was led again by Multiple Organizations with 20% (it was 24%), ahead of Governments with 11%, the same value of the previous month, and Individuals with 8%, half the value of 16%, of the previous month.

As always bear in mind that the sample refers exclusively to the attacks included in my timelines, available from public sources such as blogs and news sites. Obviously the sample cannot be complete, but only aims to provide an high level overview of the threat landscape.
