Dominant home performance v Hartberg

Our Red Bulls put in a determined and, above all, dominant performance against TSV Hartberg in their final home game of the Bundesliga's regular season, but couldn't get the goals they deserved. As the rest the league's leading pack all also drew, our three-point lead in the table remains unchanged.

Match summary

Our lads got off to a fast, energetic start, putting the visitors under pressure repeatedly in the opening minutes. Hartberg, defending with eleven men, had little to offer for a long time, while Baidoo (4'), Krätzig (10') and Konate (15') had promising moments in front of the TSV goal, but lacked the necessary luck.

After about half an hour, the game slowed down somewhat until half-time - with several lengthy stoppages for injury treatments. Tim Drexler had to be substituted early after taking a blow to his lower back/buttocks, and Anrie Chase came on for his debut (35').

We brought some pace back into the game after the restart – at least initially. Krätzig came close to taking the lead twice (54'/57') before the opposition gave us a brief scare out of nowhere with a Pazourek shot that hit the post (60').

After a brief lull in the game, our lads finally got into their stride, and produced a real attacking onslaught - especially in the final quarter of an hour. However, a breakthrough remained elusive until the final whistle. There was a brief glimmer of hope for a penalty for handball, but the officials, after a quick VAR review, did not award one (88') – a harsh decision!

It just wasn't meant to be. Although our lads should have scored 2.05 goals according to xG, we had to settle for a goalless draw.

Our next home game on Wednesday (4 March) has to see a ball in the back of the net at some stage. We host SCR Altach at 18:00 in at battle for a place in the UNIQA ÖFB Cup final.
