SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The No. 8 Angelo State Rambelles stand alone atop the Lone Star Conference Standings.

There might not be a hotter team in the Lone Star Conference right now. The Angelo State Rambelles entered their Sunday doubleheader with a perfect 6-0 conference record, standing alone as the only undefeated team. Two days after sweeping Texas A&M International in its first LSC home series, ASU followed suit Sunday afternoon versus Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Game one was scoreless through five innings. The tide seemingly turned in the top of the sixth inning when the Lady Javs scored the first run of the game via an RBI single to lead 1-0. However, that lead was quickly erased. Angelo State exploded for six runs scored in the bottom half of the same inning. Zoey Sifuentes doubled down the right field line to drive in the Rambelles’ first run of the game, tying up the contest at one apiece. The very next at-bat, Ashleigh Dendas lined a two-RBI double down the left field line to put ASU ahead 3-1. Those proved to be the winning runs, as Angelo State held on for a 6-2 win in game one.

Game two had the opposite start. The Rambelles led 4-2 through the first 2.5 innings, and added two more runs in the bottom of the third. Kylie Forney’s RBI single put ASU ahead 5-2, and Karli Manney’s RBI single in the ensuing at-bat increased the lead to 6-2. That proved to be the winning run before Kingsville rallied off three unanswered runs, cutting the deficit to 6-5. The comeback attempt fell short however, as the Rambelles held on for a 6-5 win, improving to 8-0 in the Lone Star Conference.

Angelo State returns to its home at Mayer Softball Field next weekend for doubleheaders with UT Tyler and Texas Woman’s on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
