BROOKINGS, S.D. (KELO) — The SDSU and USD women were separated by single game in the Summit League standings entering their regular-season finale meeting Saturday, which meant the winner would be the two seed at this week’s tournament.
The Jackrabbits hosted the Coyotes, and the Jacks rolled to an 82-49 win, thanks in large part to a dominant first quarter, where they outscored the Yotes 27-8. SDSU shot a blistering 71% in those first 10 minutes.
Couple that with limiting USD to just three 3-pointers for the game, the Jackrabbits made a statement by securing the two-seed after avenging losses to in their final two games.
“Going into the end of the season, we know we’re trying to get better every day,” SDSU sophomore guard Emilee Fox said. “So I think that just shows how much we’ve improved these last few weeks. And so, they’re big wins for us.”
Brooklyn Meyer poured in 33, while Molly Joyce led the Yotes with 21.
“There’s some things we can learn,” USD head coach Carrie Eighmey said. “It’s a little bit disappointing. I felt like this is not the typical defensive team that you’ve seen throughout the course of the entire season.”
The Jacks are the two seed at the Summit League tournament and open Thursday. The Yotes are third and play Friday.
