Like several key figures in Formula 1, Christian Horner saw his stock rise thanks to the success of the sport’s Netflix documentary series, Drive to Survive.

First starting in 2019, depicting the 2018 season, Drive to Survive captures the behind-the-scenes and on-track action of F1, bringing fans closer to the drivers, teams and other personalities. The series has been an incredible success, introducing the sport to a new global audience.

In the process, many key figures saw their profiles skyrocket, including Guenther Steiner and Daniel Ricciardo. Among them was Horner, who was part of the series from its inception in 2018.

Netflix followed the then-Red Bull team principal closely, covering several controversial incidents such as Ricciardo’s exit to Renault in 2019, Horner’s long-standing feud with Toto Wolff and the 2021 title battle, which saw Red Bull and Max Verstappen beat Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton.

Drive to Survive’s latest instalment, season eight, is the last that will depict Horner as Red Bull team principal. The 52-year-old was sacked in July 2025 and was later relieved of all duties in September.

Netflix ‘hopes’ Christian Horner will return to Formula 1

Netflix covered Horner’s sacking, including his instant reaction and how he and his wife, Geri Halliwell, came to terms with the news.

Laurent Mekies succeeded Horner and went on to guide Max Verstappen to a late title charge in 2025, losing to Lando Norris by just two points. But despite Red Bull’s resurgence, many have wondered if Horner will ever return to the F1 paddock.

The Brit has been linked with several teams since his exit in 2025, and according to a report from Italian outfit Corriere della Sera, Netflix hopes that Horner will make his return in the future.

Given the storylines that the former Red Bull boss has given them over the years, it is no surprise to see Drive to Survive wanting Horner to return to F1 and follow his next adventure.

Which F1 team could Christian Horner join?

As aforementioned, several teams have been linked with Horner or shown an interest in signing him in 2026.

Ferrari were linked with the 52-year-old, but these rumours were quickly shut down, as was any interest from Haas and Cadillac.

Aston Martin was another team mentioned, in what would mark a reunion with Adrian Newey and Honda. However, Alpine has been the most concrete rumour, given his close ties to current boss Flavio Briatore.

Horner is interested in buying Otro Capital’s stake in the team. The investment firm is made up of several celebrities and sports stars, such as Ryan Reynolds, Anthony Joshua and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
